  Biography :

Dr. AbdelGhaly is a professor of Biological and Environmental Engineering in the Process Engineering Department of the Faculty of Engineering at Dalhousie University. Dr. Ghaly obtained B.Sc (1969) and MSc (1973) in Agricultural and Biological Engineering from Alexandria University, Egypt and Ph.D (1982) in Environmental Engineering from McGill University, Canada. He worked as an tant lecturer at Alexandria University, Egypt(1973-1974), Graduate Assistant/Special Lecturer at McGill University, Canada (1975-1979), Assistant Professor and Head of Departmental at University of Zambia, Zambia (1979-1982) and Professor, Director of International Programs and Director of Graduate Programs at Dalhousie University, Canada since 1982. He was a Visiting Professor at University of Guyana (Guyana), University of Trinidad (West Indies), University of Cairo (Egypt), University of Sierra Leone (Sierra Leone), University of Bogor (Indonesia), University of Oriento (Cuba), Utah State University (USA), University of Nigeria (Nigeria), University of Sana’a (Yemen), University of Agriculture (Slovak Republic), King Saud University (Saudi Arabia), King Monkut Institute of Technology (Thailand). Professor Ghaly established and directed several large international projects in developing courtiers (Zambia, Egypt, Nigeria, Guyana, Trinidad, Barbados, Antigua, Thailand and Sierra Leone), evaluated governmental policies and provided consulting services in several countries. He published over 250 papers in 42 international journals,53 papers in refereed conference proceedings and 163 technical reports, and made 240 conference presentations. He supervised 52MASc students, 30 PhD students and 75 undergraduate theses. He trained14Postdoctoral Fellows, hosted 24 Visiting Professors and employed 12Scientists, 8 Technicians and 65 Co-op Students. Professor Ghaly is a member of 13 technical societies and 14 international organizations, served as editor and editor-in-chief for 15 international journals, organized 13 international conferences and chaired 39 conference sessions. He delivered 57 distinguished lectures and gave 43 scientific interviews to TV, Radio and Newspapers around the world. Professor Ghaly has received 22 International Awards in recognition of his outstanding contribution to research and development worldwide. He is a Past President and a Fellow of the Canadian Society of Biological Engineering and Past Trustee and a Fellow of the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers.

Professor Ghaly specializes in the area of Biotechnology(including microbial kinetics, production of high value molecules such as nutraceuticals, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and industrial chemicals from waste materials, process control and development of fermentation technology), the area of Environmental Engineering (including waste characterization, management and utilization, remediation of contaminated air, water and soil, environmental assessment and development of environmental technology), the area of industrial ecology (including eco-efficiency, zero emission, life cycle analysis, integrated industrial bio systems and sustainable development) and Energy (including characterization of biomass, size reduction, agglomeration, production of biogas, bioethanol and biodiesel, gasification, fluidized bed hydrodynamic, modeling, energy management and development of energy technology),

Dr. Panmanas Sirisomboon is a Senior Lecturer in the Agricultural Engineering Program of the Mechanical Engineering Department at the King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang, Thailand. She obtained B. Eng. in Agricultural Engineering (1980) from Kasetsart University, Thailand, M. Eng. In Agricultural Engineering from the Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand (1984) and Pd. D. in Agricultural Engineering from Saga University, Japan (2001).She attended several training courses in Past pyrolysis, advanced chemo-metrics for NIRS, Data analysis, near infrared spectroscopy, product quality control, computer based manufacturing of tools and spare parts. Dr. Sirisomboon worked as a Lecturer (1980-1988), Assistant Professor (1988-1996) and Associate Professor (1996-present) in Agricultural Engineering Department of King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology, Thailand.Dr. Sirisomboon is a member of the National Metal and Material Technology Center in Thailand, a life member of the Thai Society of Agricultural engineering and a life member of Thai-Japan Technology Promotion Association. Dr. Sirisomboon specializes in the areas ofProcessing of Agricultural Products (including engineering properties of Materials, physical properties of agricultural foods, material handling, agricultural products processing technology) and Near-Infrared Spectroscopy of Agricultural Products(including food texture and maturity, determination of commercial quality parameters of food products, determination of sweetness and lycopene content in fruits, determination of molds andmycotoxins in agricultural products, evaluation of salt and histamine in fish)

Dr. Emanuel Echiegu is a native of Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, Nigeria. He obtained a B.Sc. degree from the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University) Ile-Ife, Nigeria in 1982, an M.Eng degree from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Nigeria in 1986 and a Ph.D from the then Technical University of Nova Scotia, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada in 1992, all in Agricultural Engineering. Dr. Deepika Dave is a research scientist in the Marine processing Department of the Center for Aquaculture and Sea Food Development and an adjunct assistant professor in the Chemistry Department at the University of Newfoundland. She obtained B Eng in Environmental Engineering (1995) from L. D. College of Engineering, Ahmedabad, M Eng (1999) in Environmental Engineering from B. V. M. Engineering College,, V. V. Nagar and Ph D in Environmental Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay in India. Dr. Dave worked as Environmental engineer with Alpanil Industries in Gujarat, India (1996), Graduate Assistant at BVMVV Gujarat, India (1996-1999), Environmental Engineering with V E Consultant Gujarat, India (1999-2004), Graduate Assistant at the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay in India (2004-2008), Research Associate, Dalhousie University in Canada (2009-2012) and Research Scientist, Center for Aquaculture and Sea Food Development and Adjunct Assistant Professor University of Newfoundland, Canada (since 2012). Dr. Dave has over 13 years of research experiences and has been able to attract large industrial research contract. She has coordinated several workshops, chaired several conference sessions and participated in technology transfer to industry. She has served as a reviewer for many international journals and is a member of 7 technical societies. Dr. Dave has participated in training and supervision of 7 technical staff and has 36 journal papers, 14 conference presentations and 8 technical reports.

  Biography :

Maulin P. Shah, currently Chief Scientist & Head – Industrial Waste Water Research Lab, Division of Applied and Environmental Microbiology Lab at Enviro Technology Ltd., Ankleshwar, Gujarat, India, received his Ph.D. (2002-2005) in Environmental Microbiology from Sardar Patel University, Vallabh Vidyanagar, Gujarat. He has served as an Assistant Professor at Godhra, Gujarat University in 2001. He is a Microbial Biotechnologist with diverse research interest. A group of research scholars is working under his guidance on the areas ranging from Applied Microbiology, Environmental Biotechnology, Bioremediation, and Industrial Liquid Waste Management to solid state fermentation. His work has been focused to assess the impact of industrial pollution on microbial diversity of wastewater following cultivation dependant and cultivation independent analysis. His major work involves isolation, screening, identification and Genetic Engineering of high impact of Microbes for the degradation of hazardous materials. He has more than 190 research publication in highly reputed national and international journals. He directs the Research program at Enviro Technology Ltd., Ankleshwar. He has guided more than 100 Post Graduate students in various disciplines of Life Science. He is an active Editorial Board Member in 95 highly reputed Journal’s in the field of Environmental & Biological Sciences. He extends his expertise in various National as well as International Reputed Journal as Editor and Editorial Board Member like Open Access Book of Cloud Publication, Journal of Environment Pollution and Human Health. He was Founder Editor-in-Chief of International Journal of Environmental Bioremediation and Biodegradation (2012-2014) as well as Journal of Applied and Environmental Microbiology (2012-2014) (Science and Education Publishing, USA). He is also serving as a reviewer in various journals of national and international repute. Recently, he has been awarded as a Young Biotechnologist Medal by Biotechnological Society of Nepal”.
