Under the CDC funded project of AIIMS for “Acute Respiratory Infections”, working to estimate influenza mortality burden in India by synthesizing the influenza related data available in India. Activities are being undertaken for outputs towards:  To assess the strengths and weaknesses of the available data on influenza in India and appropriateness of various models for Influenza mortality estimation in the Indian context  To estimate the mortality burden due to Influenza in India by virus subtypes. The activities comprise of literature review, meeting stakeholders across departments and states to obtain mortality data from CRS and MCCD, review and analysis of data using statistical techniques, and preparing reports & publication drafts. Burden estimation was carried out using cause of death data from SRS through ORGI and virology data from ICMRNIV influenza surveillance network which were analysed using regression to estimate the associated mortality burden by virus subtypes.
