Francesca Serio was born in San Pietro Vernotico (Lecce, Italy) on 11/02/1985 and actually have a Research Fellow with the aim of assessing the risk of exposure to emission sources in the Laboratory of Hygiene at the Department of Biological and Environmental Science and Technology (Di.S.Te.B.A.) of the University of the Salento.

Currently her work is developing along the following lines: • application of molecular epidemiology to the prevention of chronic degenerative diseases; • evaluation of biomarkers of early effect and other exposure to indoor and outdoor airborne pollutants; • application of conceptual models to understanding the interactions between the environment and human health; • risk analysis procedures in contaminated areas; • establishment of new criteria for assessing the hygiene and health quality of environmental matrices (water, air, sediments); • application of molecular methods to research into viruses and bacteria in environmental matrices.
