Wei Wu obtained his PhD from Cancer Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences & Peking Union Medical College, China, in 2002. Since then, Dr Xu worked as chief physician, director of Head and Neck Medical Center, head and neck surgery director and academic leaders in Shandong Provincial Hospital Affiliated to Shandong University. Currently, Dr. Xu acts as professor of Shandong University, doctoral supervisor and holds many important posts in the field of otolaryngology, such as the member and vice president of Shandong ENT Hospital Party Committee, the vice chairman of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery Youth Committee, and the vice chairman of Shandong Medical Association Otolaryngology Science Branch. He also serves as the editorial board member of Chinese Journal of Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery and International Journal of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery.

Mechanisms of distant metastasis of hypopharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (HSCC), focusing on biomarkers and tumor microenvironment. In addition, the molecular mechanism of radiosensitivity and chemoresistance of HSCC was also deeply investigated by the group of Dr. Xu.
