Biography :

Professor A. K. Mukhopadhyay is a path-breaking scientist, a humble game-changer in science. He is a medical doctor, a laboratory physician, a devout student of consciousness and an innovator of new ideas. Born in 1953, Prof. A. K. Mukhopadhyay is MBBS from the University of Calcutta (1977) and MD in Pathology (1981) from India’s premier Medical Institute (AIIMS) at New Delhi, where he had served for 40 years on various capacities. During last 12 years of his tenure at AIIMS, he had been the Head of the Department of Laboratory Medicine. Following superannuation from AIIMS he has been engaged as Professor of Pathology in North DMC Medical College & HR Hospital in Delhi.

Research Interest :

His Research specialization in empirical neuroscience is on a) Neurodegenerative disorder like (i) Alzheimer’s disease and Vascular dementia; Genetic polymorphism and Epistasis, ROS and Mitochondria, (ii) Parkinson’s disease; Mitochondrial DNA and mitochondrial functions, b) Molecular Psychiatry; Depression; genetic polymorphism and Epistasis, Psycho-neuro-immunology; Depression and Immune function and Apoptosis; c) Coagulation abnormalities in Traumatic Brain Injury. In addition to mainstream research, his works on developing a science for consciousness within the ambits of Systems Psychology, Systems Physics, System Informatics, and Systems Biology through formulation of research questions, concept building and generation of research hypothesis bring a radical change of the Worldview and the Paradigm shift in many disciplines of Science. He coined the term and concept of Supracortical Consciousness in 1985 and authored books like The Dynamic web of Supracortical Consciousness (1987), Conquering the Brain (1995) and The Millennium Bridge (2000). He wrote extensively in Philosophical Volumes of Indian Council of Philosophical Research on the Science of Consciousness, on possible Relationship between Genes, Memes, Self, Consciousness and Information. His path-breaking Papers are on Systems Psyche, The Ladder of Cognition, The Canvas of Cognition, The Layers between Neuroscience and Consciousness, Information Geometry, Relationship between Artificial Intelligence, Human Intelligence and Intelligence in Nature. His kind of research has enormous translational potential in exploring Life-style and Disease, Complementary and Alternative Medicine, Psychosomatic Medicine, Synthetic Biology, in harnessing of Dark Energy from nature and developing meaningful Artificial Intelligence. He has been bestowed with Life-Time Achievement Award in Systems Science by Systems Society of India (SSI) in 2018. Prof. Mukhopadhyay is on the Advisory Board of Galileo Commission for Extended Science, UK.
