Biography :

Prof. Longo-Mbenza holds a PhD degree in Physiology and Pathophysiology, DSc in Cardiology and MSc in Cardiology from Free University of Brussels, Belgiun. He obtained his MMed in Internal Medicine, Diploma in Molecular Genetics, Cardiovascular Epidemiology.Prof Longo is the author of more than 300 scientific publications and 5 books. He is an Expert of WHO and Expert of United Nations for Climate Change and Environment. Prof Longo is a former Visiting Professor at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, Texas, USA; former Dean of Faculty of Medicine in University of Kinshasa, DRC and former Vice-Chancellor of University of Kinshasa, DRC. He was also the former Professor at University of Limpopo, Medunsa, Pretoria. He has supervised 10 PhD students and 100 MSc students, and is a reviewer of 30 Journals. In May 2015, Prof Longo-Mbenza’s Elsevier Scopus h-index was 14 with 629 total citations and total impact factor of 112.46. He is a Member of the New York Academy of Sciences, Fellow of American Heart Association, Fellow of American College of Cardiology, Member of European Society of Cardiology. Member of American Diabetes Association, Member of French Society of Cardiology, Member of Belgian Society of Cardiology, Member of PAN African Society of Cardiology.

Research Interest :

His Fields of Research include: Epidemiology of Chronic Diseases including Cardiovascular diseases, diabetes and HIV/AIDS. Impact of climate on Health, Tobacco Control, Biostatistics and Modelling, Molecular medicine, Molecular genetics, Toll-like receptors 2 and 4, Th17 and T-reg responses, oxidative stress, Helicobacter pylori and Chlamydia pneumoniae with cardio-vascular diseases and visual impairment.
