Biography :

Kasun M. Thambugala is a bachelor degree holder (Bioscience) of University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka and completed his PhD at Mae Fah Luang University, Thailand. He has also worked as a Visiting Scientist at Guizhou Key Laboratory of Agricultural Biotechnology, People’s Republic of China during his PhD. He has contributed numerous new taxa including new species and genera to the fungal world with DNA sequence data, which led to a better understanding of the fungal taxonomy and biodiversity around the world. Furthermore, DNA sequence data representing different genes were generated and contributed for future phylogenetic studies using epitypes, authentic specimens and fresh collections. Several important dothideomycetous taxa were revisited and a natural classification was provided for selected families. As a result of his study, he has more than 40 scientific publications with over 1400 citations with an H-index of 17. Currently he is working on plant inhabiting micro-fungi occurring on terrestrial habitats since they appear to have a great contribution to the fungal world.
