Andy Petroianu, MD in 1976 and PhD in Surgery in 1985 at Federal University of Minas Gerais, Brazil. Currently, is working as Full Professor at the Department of Surgery of the School of Medicine in the Federal University of Minas Gerais and is the Head of the Service of General Surgery at the Santa Casa Hospital in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. He is the Coordinator of the Medicine Unit of the National Council of Science and Technology in Brazil, and Member of the Surgery Sector of the National Post-graduate Council in Brazil, Member of Medicine Sector of the Foundation for Assistance to Research of Minas Gerais State.

His research has included studies on spleen anatomy and functions, conservative surgeries on spleen, healing procedures, organ transplantations, digestive motility, oncologic surgeries, etc. He has received 112 awards and honors, such as Best Surgeon, Best Researcher, Honor Citizen of Belo Horizonte city, Best research according to the National Academy of Medicine, Outstanding researcher by the Academy of Medicine of Minas Gerais, 19 Best research according to the Brazilian College of Surgeons, etc. He is author of 514 research articles, 25 books, 169 book chapters and more than 3000 presentations in Medical and Research Meetings.
