Biography :

Jay R. Shapiro, MD, F.A.C.E, F.A.C.P, is a graduate of Franklin and Marshall College and the Boston University School of Medicine. He is Adjunct Professor of Medicine at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences and has served as Professor, Dept. Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Johns Hopkins School of Medicine where he previously directed the General Clinical Research Center, Bayview Campus. Dr. Shapiro recently served as Director, Bone and Osteogenesis Imperfecta Dept. at the Kennedy Krieger Institute and was consultant in Endocrinology and bone disorders to specialized neurogenetic clinics at the Kennedy Krieger Institute. At those clinics Dr. Shapiro provided consultation in related endocrine disorders. From 1997 to 2004, Dr. Shapiro chaired the Bone Team for the National Space Biomedical Research Institute, Houston and facilitated treatment of astronauts in flight to limit bone loss. In 2014 Dr. Shapiro edited the text: Osteogenesis Imperfecta, a Transitional Approach to Brittle Bone Disease, Elsevier. Currently in practice in Endocrinology in Bethesda, MD, Dr. Shapiro is a medical staff member at Suburban Hospital, Bethesda, MD, a member of the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions and is credentialed in the Dept. of Endocrinology and Diabetes at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center , Bethesda.
