Biography :

Dr. Qi Zhang is a Research Scientist at Brain Science Institute, RIKEN, Japan. She is currently studying the roles of a pair of GPI-anchored adhesion molecules, netrin-G1 and netrin-G2, in learning, memory, emotion and related neurological diseases. She is also working on the project tracking the movements of synaptic adhesion molecules by Q-dot imaging method. Dr. Qi Zhang got Bachelor of Clinical Medicine from Medical School, ShanDong University and obtained experience at Department of Neurosurgery, Qianfoshan Hospital(tutor: Prof. Shangchen Xu). She then went to the Institute of Neurosciences of the Fourth Military Medical University (supervisor: Prof. Gong Ju) and studied central nervous system regeneration. Her work for Master’s degree focused on treating rat and monkey spinal cord injury by co-implantation of neural stem cells and olfactory ensheathing cells. Her Ph.D thesis project “The Roles of Notch-Rbp-J Pathway in Neurogenesis and Neuroregeneration” revealed that the Notch-Rbp-J pathway plays specific roles at different stages of neurogenesis. Dr. Qi Zhang is an adjunct lecturer at Waseda University and Tokyo Metropolitian University. She provides guest lectures on the topics of neurodevelopment and neuroregeneration at Faculty of Medicine, Juntendo University as well.
