I work in academia as an internationally recognized neuropharmacology and neuroimmunology researcher. I published more than 500 scientific reports in the field of neuropsychopharmacology and signal transduction . I am leading a laboratory interested in understanding the fundamental neurobiological mechanisms of neuropsychiatric disorders to contribute at development of new pharmacological treatments. We use genetic, neuroendocrine and neurochemical methods. We recognize the role of the immune system in modulating neuropsychiatric diseases and we are developing in vitro cellular models and in vivo animal models to study the neuro-immune interactions under normal and disease states I has successfully combined research, teaching, administration and clinical care and continue to work on advancing our understanding of serious mental illness and drug development. We used to translate research findings into medical practice for the purposes of diagnosing, preventing and treating diseases. I has published scientific reports on peptides, their receptors, signal transduction and the role of these neuropeptides in the immune systems. I hold patents for using modified peptides in the treatment of septic shock.

I have skills and expertise in receptor pharmacology, immunohistochemistry, in vivo and in vitro cell culture, biochemistry, animal models, cell and molecular biology. I has lectured worldwide on these subjects and the others. I have 19 years of research experience with development and use of in vitro models to test compounds, such as receptor binding, receptor activation, signal transduction, receptor-receptor interactions, and induction of changes in cell cycle, proliferation and apoptosis. Furthermore I validated appropriate assays and models of diseases, screen compounds, and study mechanisms of action.

Professor Akira Sugawara belongs to the Department of Molecular Endocrinology, Tohoku University Graduate School of Medicine, Sendai, Japan. He graduated from Tohoku University School of Medicine on 1987 (M.D.), and got Ph.D. on 1991 from Tohoku University Graduate School of Medicine. He performed Postdoctoral Fellowship in William Chin’s laboratory at the Women’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School in Boston from 1991 to 1994. His major is general internal medicine, endocrinology and metabolism and hypertension and nephrology.

His research interest is 1) molecular biology of nuclear hormone receptors, 2) etiology of high blood pressure, 3) pathophysiology of diabetic nephropathy, 4) gene regulation of aldosterone synthase, and 5) epigenetics of hypertension and diabetes mellitus.

President Chen obtained PhD in 1999 at Kaohsiung Medical University. Currently teaches in Fooyin University, as most young is also the most senior professors and deans. The past 20 years, he has his scientific interests focused on life-threatening diseases, including traditional Chinese medicine used for cancer research. Adil O. Bahathiq had an initial experience of the research tools with Professors Ian Cooke and William Ledger at the University of Sheffield, U.K.He found new data the Fallopian tube and epididymis for his Ph.D. Then he conducted a new line of research that helped and improved the health of the community. He has developed this area after years of experience in research, evaluation, teaching, and administration both in the hospital and educational institutions. This research area was chosen because of the lack of data relating to obesity and the metabolic syndrome in the children and adults of the Makkah community.

Jay R. Shapiro, MD, F.A.C.E, F.A.C.P, is a graduate of Franklin and Marshall College and the Boston University School of Medicine. He is Adjunct Professor of Medicine at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences and has served as Professor, Dept. Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Johns Hopkins School of Medicine where he previously directed the General Clinical Research Center, Bayview Campus. My major research interest is to understand the underlying mechanisms of cardiac diseases such as arrhythmias, and the molecular and cellular basis for potential treatment of cardiac diseases. First, a novel mechanism (tyrosine phosphorylation) has been identified and investigated to correct the membrane trafficking defect of the Hyperpolarized Cyclic-Nucleotide gated (HCN) channel mutant that are found in patients with cardiac long QT symptoms. The study is part of applicant’s doctoral dissertation, and has published in international journals. (J. Biol. Chem. 284: 30433-30440, 2009). Currently, the major approaches that I am employing include electrophysiology (patch clamp recording), calcium imaging, immunofluorescence imaging, RNA and protein biochemistry (real-time PCR, immunoprecipitation, biotinylation, and western blotting analyses), as well as animal homeostatic surgery (whole rat or mouse cathetering and drugs administration).

Esther Ching-Lan Lin is an Associate Professor in the Department of Nursing, College of Medicine, National Cheng Kung University, and adjunct Supervisor of the Department of Psychiatry, National Cheng Kung University Hospital, Tainan, Taiwan. She has been a nurse, a manager, a teacher, and an advisor for 18 years. After completing her PhD at National Taiwan University, she has continued her academic career in nursing education and has focused on improving the quality of care for patients with severe mental illness and nursing staffs. She has published around 50 papers in English-language and Chinese-language journals—most recently on developing and evaluating psychosocial treatments for patients with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder—and has devoted herself as being many board members of national nursing associations, as well as an editorial board member for the past 6 years of a national nursing journal in Taiwan.

Dr Amir Bahrami was born in January 26, 1954 in Iran. Graduated as a general physician in 1981. He started residency in internal medicine at Tabriz and Shiraz University hospitals (1984-1987), and received National Board certification in internal medicine in 1987. He started his academic experiences as an assistant professor of medicine at Tabriz University of medical sciences. In 1990 he was accepted in postgraduate program in the field of endocrinology and metabolism and passed national Board examination in the subspecialty of endocrinology and metabolism in 1992. He passed an academic year (sept, 1992 to sept, 1993) as a visiting scientist at the University of Toronto, department of medicine, division of endocrinology and metabolism and thyroid research center.
